Despite most hot rod events being shut down this summer due to the pandemic, the ultimate car show went on.
The National Street Rod Association (NSRA) gave out several awards at the 51st Annual Street Rod Nationals this year in Louisville, Kentucky.
Master Power Brakes won three awards at the New Product display. Let’s dive into the details and explain what these awards mean for our customers.
What Are the NSRA Street Rod Nationals?
Each year, this vintage car show highlights vehicles that are equipped with the latest options such as disc brakes, cruise control, and tilt steering. The cars aren’t even roped off, which means spectators can walk right up to the street rods and check them out from top to bottom. Of course, everyone is asked to look, but don’t touch.
What Is the New Product Display?
This exhibit is where manufacturers show off their latest offerings. Attendees can look for items to apply to a current project or make improvements to a car they already have on the road.
When it comes to the award selection process, nearly 100 judges cast their votes for the best product in five categories. They represent a cross-section of hot rod enthusiasts and are not associated with any of the competing businesses.
Which Master Power Brakes Products Won Awards?
Master Power Brakes won three awards at this year’s show: New Product $201-$1,000, New Product $1,001-$5,000, and Best New Safety-Related Product.
Legend Series Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit
In the New Product $201-$1,000 category, our Legend Series Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit was the winner.
In this kit, we used a vented rotor with an 11” diameter that is available in both a plain finish or as a slotted, drilled, and zinc-washed finish. This size will allow fitments inside of most 15” wheels. Templates are available to verify.
The rotor is drilled to accept either a 5 x 4-1/2” or 5 x 4-3/4” bolt pattern. Centering rings are also included to perfectly position the rotor on the axle flange, making for a proper hub-centric installation.
For mounting brackets, we incorporated a base mounting bracket constructed from CNC-machined billet aluminum combined with a laser-cut steel bracket. All of the needed hardware and bushings are included in the system.
Kits are available for most common applications, including the Ford Small, Big, and Torino Bearing Flange, GM 10/12 Bolt rear ends with and without C-clips, GM Tri-Five and Impala applications, and Mopar Dana 60 and 8-3/4”.
The Legend Series Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit won a second award for Best New Safety-Related Product.
CarbonX Brake Booster Kit
In the New Product $1,001-$5,000 category, our CarbonX Brake Booster Kit took home top honors.
This kit consists of high-gloss outer carbon fiber shells with modern 9-inch, dual-diaphragm internals. It’s all held together with several CNC-machined billet aluminum components, including two outer billet aluminum rings.
Our new booster utilizes standard front and rear mounting dimensions, allowing for easy replacement of your old booster. The custom version of this booster will also allow you to decide the location of the mounting hardware.
Custom upgrade options will allow you to match the vacuum brake booster to the engine’s theme and overall look, including the ability to feature the booster, rings from both the front and back of the booster.
With this product, there is finally a brake booster that has the looks to go along with today’s high-end builds. Traditionally, a builder has gone to great lengths to move, hide, or cover the brake booster. Now, it’s a part that can be featured.

“Being called to the stage three times is unheard of in the nearly 50-year history of the Best New Product competition,” Street Scene reported.
The Legend Series Rear Disc Brake Conversion Kit and the CarbonX Brake Booster Kit were truly the stars of this car show.
